The chances are you've tried to lose weight before and you've probably experienced some successes and failures. There are thousands of books out there claiming to have the answer.

The biggest reason for weight gain is having high levels of the hormone insulin.


  1. Eating sugary foods or starchy carbohydrates (carbs) like bread, rice and pasta results in high blood sugar levels, causing insulin levels to rise.
  2. High insulin levels block fat burning and cause sugar to be stored as fat.
  3. High insulin levels result in insulin resistance. Your cells can’t take up glucose so easily and feel starved. You feel hungry as a result. Carbs cause spikes in blood sugar followed by appetite cravings when the sugar drops.
  4. Failure leads to emotional eating. People tend to turn to food when they're stressed or anxious, and generally, it'll be high carb foods. Your brain is wired to enjoy sugar!


Fortunately, there are ways to escape this cycle. Some of the most popular approaches are: 


  1. Cut calories. There are lots of proven Weight loss programmes available in North West London, which can help you lose weight and achieve remission from type 2 diabetes.
  2. Cut carbs. When you cut carbs, insulin levels drop and your body starts being able to burn fat more easily. The Mediterranean diet focuses on good fats like nuts and olive oil as well as fish and plenty of vegetables. Fats and proteins help you remain full for longer. 
  3. Intermittent fasting. When you fast, your body goes into fat-burning mode after about 12 hours, and soon after that, it goes into self-repair. We’ll cover this in more detail in one of the next emails.
