Making changes last

This is the last Fresh Start email we'll send you.

Hopefully, you've learned something new over the last three months. Maybe you've found a new way of relaxing that helps you reduce stress and improve your sleep. Perhaps you've made some dietary changes and are well on your way to achieving your target weight. Or possibly you feel more positive about life and are now motivated to make space for looking after yourself more.

Let's have a look back at some of the things you've learned:

  1. Remission. Losing 10-15kg will help you achieve remission or significantly reduce your diabetes medication, as well as other benefits.
  2. Dietary approaches that work. Not tried low carb or intermittent fasting yet? Many people find these help them make healthy changes. If you've not done so already, why not check our low carb meal plans or culture-specific versions?
  3. Improving mental health. We gave you some tips to help with feelings of failureshame and depression, as well as advice on sleeping better and relaxing more.
  4. Getting more active. Why not remind yourself about how to overcome barriers to activity?

If you've made some changes, the chances are you want to make them last. Many people find it helpful to update their goals regularly as they start making changes.

Remember that knowing your "why" is extremely important. It's a solid foundation for taking action and will help you keep going through setbacks. Your "why" might be that you want to live longer and more healthily, have more energy or not have to take medication.

Actions are the small steps you need to take to reach your goal. The best actions include what to do and when to do it.

Download our goal setting tool, print it off and put it somewhere as a reminder of why and how you're going to keep making changes.

Remember, everyday choices have a huge impact on your health and well-being.

We hope you've found the Fresh Start programme useful. Don't forget to provide us with feedback. It will help us improve the programme and help more people like you understand their diabetes, improve their wellbeing and make changes last.

We wish you well for your future,

The Know Diabetes team.
